Every aisle has a dead zone: the vertical strip at the end of a gondola, too narrow for a shelf, too valuable to leave blank. Sidekick and powerwing displays exist to claim that strip. Sidekick vs powerwing
The terms are used interchangeably, but there is a useful distinction. A powerwing is a flat panel that hangs parallel to the aisle face, projecting into the walkway so shoppers see its edge as they approach. A sidekick is a shallower unit that hangs against the shelf end, saving aisle width and suiting narrower formats. Both use the same mounting logic and both are at their best with pre-filled product, because the whole point is to add a selling face without adding store labour.
Mounting and balance
A sidekick is a cantilever. All its weight hangs from a bracket that grips the gondola upright, so the design has two jobs: transfer load into the existing shelving rather than into the display’s own thin panel, and stay visually flat. We specify the bracket type to the retailer’s upright (metal S-hooks, plastic clips or a custom grip), then stiffen the panel with a perimeter frame so the shelves do not bow toward the aisle. A common failure is a unit that is fine empty and tilts forward once loaded — the bracket holds, but the panel flexes.

Why co-packing turns a sidekick into a launch tool
A sidekick is small, so restocking it is fiddly, and stores deprioritise fiddly work. When the unit arrives pre-loaded and sealed, the associate hangs one clip and the promotion is live. That is why our co-packing line is central to this format: we receive the client’s product at our factory, load each tier, secure it for transit, and ship the finished unit so it needs no assembly in store. For a 1,000-store launch this is usually the difference between full compliance and a pallet left in the back room.
Project reference: a pre-filled toy sidekick
A toy brand needed to extend a gondola run with plush and blind-box product without asking store staff to load hundreds of small items. We built a hanging powerwing with die-cut circular hold-downs that cradle round, soft toys and stop them falling out during shipping or shopping, sized each hole to the product, and shipped the whole run pre-filled. The display arrived as a single loaded unit and went straight onto the aisle.

Sidekick & powerwing FAQ
How much weight can a sidekick display hold?
Typically 2–6 kg per tier, with the total set by the mounting bracket rather than the board. We print the rated load on the unit and test the loaded panel for flex before approval.
Will it fit my retailer’s shelving?
We produce to the retailer’s upright standard and can supply a bracket that matches. If the format is unknown, we design a universal hook-over bracket as a fallback.
Can a sidekick hang on both sides?
Yes. A double-sided powerwing doubles the facing without widening the footprint, but it also doubles the load on the bracket, so the structural spec changes accordingly.
Do you offer pre-filling for every product type?
We pre-fill most consumer goods, including plush, boxed toys, bottles, sachets and blister packs. We will flag any product that cannot be safely shipped pre-loaded and propose a hybrid instead.
How long does a co-packed sidekick take?
Plan on 12–18 days for bulk including assembly and loading, against 10–14 days for a flat-packed unit. The added days are usually repaid many times over in store compliance.
