Die-Cut Beverage Standee: Custom Floor Display for Sodas & Juices
Picture the beverage aisle on a Saturday afternoon. A shopper moves quickly, eyes scanning for a familiar brand or a compelling price. Standard rectangular shelf signage blends into the background. A die-cut standee shaped like a cup, can, or bottle, standing at the end of the aisle, breaks that pattern. It catches the eye because its silhouette is different, and it communicates the product before a single word is read.
This free-standing floor display is engineered for beverage promotions in supermarkets, convenience stores, and wholesale clubs. It combines a custom die-cut top contour with a stable rear support and vibrant print. The result is a promotional unit that can be placed in high-traffic zones without the risk of tipping or looking flimsy. Whether you are pushing a new energy drink, a summer juice flavor, or a combo meal deal, this standee gives your brand a physical presence that competes with the cluttered retail environment.
One Plus Display manufactures these units factory-direct, which means you can adjust size, material, and finish without paying for unnecessary extras. The design is fully collapsible, so it ships flat and assembles in seconds. This article explains how the format works, what engineering decisions matter, and how to plan a beverage promotion that actually converts at the point of sale.
Why a Die-Cut Standee Wins for Beverage Promotions
Beverage retail is fast. Shoppers do not read; they recognize. A die-cut contour gives your display a recognizable shape that the brain processes faster than text. That shape can mirror your primary packaging: a soda can, a juice bottle, a coffee cup, or a sports drink. When the silhouette matches the product, the standee becomes a three-dimensional brand cue.
Beyond recognition, the standee format solves a common problem in beverage aisles: vertical space. Shelves are packed, and endcaps are competitive. A free-standing unit can be placed on the floor where there is room to breathe. It can also be positioned near entrances, checkout lanes, or promotional islands. Because it is lightweight yet stable, staff can reposition it without tools.
Compared to a standard rectangular poster, the die-cut shape adds a perception of quality and effort. Retailers notice when a brand invests in custom POP, and they are more likely to give it a prominent spot. For the brand, the unit doubles as a photo opportunity: shoppers share displays that look interesting, which extends the promotion beyond the store.

Structural Engineering: Stability Without Bulk
A floor standee must stand up to real-world conditions: shopping carts, cleaning crews, and accidental bumps. The engineering starts with the base and the rear support. We use a fold-out cardboard strut or easel that creates a triangular footprint. This geometry distributes weight and resists tipping. The angle of the strut can be adjusted during prototyping to match the center of gravity of your specific header shape.
The die-cut top contour is not just decorative; it affects structural integrity. Deep cuts or thin sections can weaken the board. Our designers add internal reinforcement or adjust the flute direction to maintain rigidity. For tall standees, we may add a secondary rear panel or a cross-brace. The goal is a unit that feels solid when a shopper brushes past it.
Another consideration is the connection between the header and the body. We use interlocking tabs or a folded gusset to create a rigid joint. This prevents the header from sagging over time. If your design includes a shelf or a product holder, we calculate the load and reinforce accordingly. We do not publish exact load ratings because they depend on material, size, and assembly, but we prototype and test each design before production.
Materials and Finishing: Choosing the Right Substrate
The standard material for this standee is heavy-duty corrugated cardboard. We offer E-flute and B-flute grades. E-flute is thinner and provides a smoother printing surface, ideal for detailed graphics and die-cut contours. B-flute is thicker and more rigid, suitable for larger standees or those that need extra durability. For a premium feel, we can use rigid lightweight KT board, which is a foam-core board with paper facings. It is stiffer than corrugated but still lightweight.
If the display will be placed in a humid environment, such as near a store entrance or a refrigerated section, we can substitute the base core with water-resistant corrugated plastic sheets. This material resists moisture and can be wiped clean. For outdoor or semi-outdoor use, we recommend a full plastic or acrylic construction, which we also manufacture.
Surface treatments enhance both appearance and durability. High-gloss protective film lamination makes colors pop and provides a moisture barrier. Matte anti-glare coating reduces reflections under bright store lighting, which is important for readability. UV overlay protects against fading if the standee is exposed to sunlight. We can also apply spot UV or embossing for tactile effects, though these are less common for beverage promotions.
All materials are customizable within practical ranges. We do not list exact thicknesses or dimensions here because every project is different. During quoting, we will recommend a material based on your size, weight, and distribution requirements.
Merchandising and Retail Placement
Placement determines success. For beverage promotions, consider these zones:
- Endcaps: High visibility, but often crowded. A die-cut standee can sit at the end of the aisle, facing traffic.
- Checkout lanes: Impulse purchase territory. A smaller standee near the register can drive last-minute add-ons.
- Store entrance: Captures shoppers as they enter, setting the tone for the shopping trip. Use a water-resistant material if the entrance is open or humid.
- Promotional islands: Free-standing units work well here because they can be moved as the promotion changes.
The graphic design should support the format. Use a bold, simple layout. The die-cut shape already provides visual interest, so the printed area can focus on the product, brand logo, and a clear call to action. High-contrast colors and large pricing information help in fast-paced environments. Consider adding a QR code for digital engagement, but keep it secondary to the main message.
For a different structural approach, such as a square column totem, see our custom cardboard display totem used for footwear. The principles of stability and print quality are similar, but the shape changes the shopper’s perception.
Customization and Production Workflow
Every standee we produce is made to order. The process begins with your artwork. You can provide a high-resolution product photo or a vector file of your packaging. Our design team will create a die-cut path that matches the container shape. We will send you a digital proof and, if needed, a physical prototype for approval.
Once the structure is approved, we move to production. Printing is done with high-fidelity CMYK presses that reproduce rich colors and fine details. The die-cutting is performed on digital cutting tables, which allows for complex contours without expensive tooling. The rear support is assembled and tested. Finally, the units are packed flat and shipped.
We can accommodate a range of sizes, from small counter units to large floor standees. The only limits are practical: very large standees may require additional internal supports, and very small die-cut details may need to be simplified for structural integrity. We will advise you on these trade-offs during the design phase.
Three Concrete Use-Case Scenarios
Scenario 1: Summer Soft Drink Launch
A beverage brand launches a new tropical flavor. They want to drive trial in supermarkets. The standee is die-cut in the shape of a soda can, with condensation graphics printed in high gloss. It is placed at the end of the beverage aisle, facing the main traffic flow. A small shelf holds sample cups. The unit is made of E-flute corrugated with gloss lamination to resist moisture from the cups.
Scenario 2: Energy Drink Combo Promotion
A convenience store chain runs a combo deal: energy drink plus a snack. The standee features a die-cut shape of the energy drink can and a printed snack image. It stands near the checkout counter. The material is B-flute for extra rigidity, as it will be in a high-touch area. The rear strut is reinforced to prevent tipping when customers reach for the product.
Scenario 3: Iced Coffee Seasonal Campaign
A coffee brand promotes a limited-edition iced coffee flavor. The standee is shaped like a coffee cup with a straw. It is placed near the store entrance during summer. Because entrances can be humid, the base is made of water-resistant corrugated plastic, while the header uses standard corrugated with matte lamination to reduce glare from sunlight. The design includes a QR code linking to a mobile coupon.
Assembly, Packing and Logistics
Assembly is tool-free. The standee arrives flat. You fold the body, attach the rear strut, and lock the header into place. Most units can be assembled in under a minute. We provide simple instructions, and we can pre-assemble and ship if you prefer, though this increases freight cost.
Packing is designed for international B2B freight. Units are stacked flat and packed in corrugated cartons. We use corner protectors and stretch wrap to prevent damage. The flat-pack design dramatically reduces shipping volume compared to pre-assembled displays, which lowers your freight cost per unit.
For large orders, we can palletize and shrink-wrap. We can also ship to multiple destinations if you are distributing to different retail regions. Our logistics team will work with your freight forwarder or arrange shipping on your behalf.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the header be die-cut into a specific soda bottle or beer can shape?
Yes. The digital cutting outline is fully customizable. Provide us with your high-resolution product photography or packaging vector artwork, and we will create a custom silhouette path matching your exact beverage container.
Как этот знак ведет себя рядом с открытыми входами в магазины, где может быть влажно?
Our standard cardboard standees are layered with a protective gloss or matte film lamination that deflects minor splashes and light surface moisture. For locations with high ambient humidity or damp floors, we can substitute the base core with water-resistant corrugated plastic sheets.
What is the minimum order quantity?
Minimum order quantities vary by size and material. We work with both small and large runs. Contact us with your requirements for a specific quote.
Can you match my brand colors exactly?
We use high-fidelity CMYK printing, which reproduces a wide color gamut. For critical brand colors, we can provide a proof for your approval before production.
