In late August 2026, a French customer approached One Plus Display through Alibaba with a request for 500 custom floor display stands for mobile phone and electronic accessories. The product range included Type-C chargers, wired and wireless earphones, and power banks.
The customer wanted a durable, all-black display with green-and-white branding. The challenge was to replace the conventional shelf-box structure in the original reference with a hook-based merchandising layout, without adding unnecessary materials or printing costs.

The Challenge: Combining Hook Merchandising with the Original Design
The customer’s initial reference featured a conventional multi-tier display with box-style shelves. However, the actual merchandising requirement called for metal hooks to hold packaged electronic accessories.
Simply reproducing the original structure would have added unnecessary material and cost. The new design needed to retain the prominent brand header, clear product category labels and familiar tiered appearance while allowing products to hang from hooks.
There was also a finish-related cost issue. Standard PVC foam board is typically white, while the customer wanted a black exterior. Achieving this appearance with conventional printing would require extensive full-coverage printing, including both sides of the panels.

Our Solution: Simplify the Structure and Choose the Right Material
Our sales and structural engineering teams compared corrugated cardboard and PVC foam board options, providing cost estimates and design mock-ups for both. After reviewing the alternatives, the customer selected PVC foam board for its durability in the intended retail environment.
1. Replacing Full Shelf Boxes with a Hook-Based Layout
Instead of building complete storage boxes at every level, our engineering team removed the non-load-bearing bottom panels from the original tier design.
The revised structure retained 50 mm-high front fascia bars at approximately 300 mm intervals, along with a 100 mm-high kickplate. A pegboard backing and metal hooks provided the product-hanging function.
This approach preserved the tiered visual layout and the space for product category labels, including Type-C chargers, earphones and power banks, while eliminating material that was not needed for the new merchandising method.
Based on the project calculations, the simplified structure reduced raw material consumption by approximately 15%.
2. Using Black PVC Foam Board Instead of Printing the Entire Surface
To achieve the requested all-black appearance without paying for extensive black ink coverage, we switched to pre-coloured black PVC foam board.
Rather than printing the entire structure, we applied green-and-white graphics selectively to the header, side panels and front fascia bars. This kept the brand presentation consistent while avoiding unnecessary full-coverage printing on the black surfaces.
Compared with the proposed full-coverage printing approach, the material substitution and selective printing strategy reduced estimated printing and processing costs by approximately 35%.

From Engineering Drawing to an Approved Sample
The final display measured 600 mm wide, 250 mm deep and 1,750 mm high, including a 1,500 mm main body and a 250 mm top header.
The black structure provided a clean background for the products, while the green fascia bars separated the product categories. Metal hooks accommodated hanging merchandise, and the header maintained a clear brand presence at the top of the unit.
Both the revised engineering drawings and the physical sample were approved by the customer on the first submission. The project then proceeded to a 500-unit order for deployment in French retail stores.

What Made This Custom Display More Cost-Effective?
The result came from two practical decisions: simplifying the shelf structure to suit hook-based merchandising, and choosing a material that already had the required black finish.
- Approximately 15% less raw material: Removing unnecessary shelf-box bottom panels simplified the structure.
- Approximately 35% lower printing and processing costs: Pre-coloured black PVC foam board reduced the need for extensive full-coverage printing.
- A design tailored to the product: Metal hooks, category fascia bars and a branded header served different merchandising functions without rebuilding the original box structure.
